48 hours in budapest
Last Friday, we made our way to Manchester Airport, me with my whole life crammed into a 10kg hand luggage and Tom with one pair of socks and undies in his tiny rucksack, to jet off to Budapest!
My first impression of this crazy city was WOW THE BUILDINGS and secondly OMG THIS WINE IS BANGIN’.
We came here ultimately to meet Dyl and Ellie as they’ve started their journey exploring the world for the next five years @infinite.wanderers. That was the only reason. Any excuse for a city break, right? Our second reason was to eat some banging food and drink some amazing wine. And we did just that. Maybe a bit too aggressively, actually. Upon reflection.
Esca Budapest
Esca felt like I’d stepped into a teleportation device and landed directly back in Ancoats in Manchester! Dimmed lighting, intimate table settings, an insane wine collection, Gabriel Glas glassware and unique medium plates with an incredible playlist such as PJ Harvey and Maribou State – Tongue, playing in the background. This place is a MUST visit if you love good wine and medium/small plates with a Hungarian twist.

Have you ever been to a pizza and natural wine bar before? Me neither.
Tom uses a Natural Wine app called Raisin which finds all the best natural wine bars across the world, and this little gem popped up on Saturday night after a few drinks, an empty belly and a quick search.
Quatro – Grana padano, fior di latte, scamorza, taleggio pecorino, ricotta cream, honey, pepper, olive oil.
Nduja – San Marzano-nduja ragout, grana padano, fior di latte, pancetta, radicchio, stracciatella, olive oil.
I’ve personally never encountered a natural wine and pizza parlour entwined, but for me, it worked. It was so effing good. The pizzas were as good (if not better) than your typical Rudy’s pizza, with uniquely thought out toppings such as anchovies, a four cheese-based pizza with honey that provided that divine mix of sweet and savoury…
Not to mention the wine was also banging! 10/10.
𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: @circopizza, Budapest.
If you’ve got Budapest on your bucket list, this cafe is an absolute must visit!
This was the best coffee I had whilst in Budapest and I absolutely loved the assortment of breakfast and brunch dishes they offered, including veggie options!
Small, cute and vibrant: that’s how I’d describe Bluebird Cafe. From its funky tables to its wall art bursting with colour and of course its dishes and ceramic mugs which are just as funky!
Have you been to Bluebird in Budapest? If you were to visit the city, would it be added to your list?

Would I return to Budapest?
My first impression of this crazy city was WOW THE BUILDINGS and secondly OMG THIS WINE IS BANGIN’.
Ngl – the place itself is a bit shabby chic in the politest way. Or in other words, a bit scatty. One minute you have gloriously pale bone white buildings with floor to ceiling glass entrances; the street bustling with put together men and ladies with their fashionable attire; then you turn the corner and there’s someone offering you cocaine and weed, or a drunk man shouting at you in Hungarian. It’s a strange place, but nonetheless, the food is unreal, the wine is insane and the architecture and history this beautiful city holds is one to be experienced.
Will I return? I’m not too sure yet. There’s so many places I want to see before I start returning to places I’ve already been (she says even though she’s got Amsterdam booked for the third time). But should you add it to your to-go list? Absolutely.
