Oh my gosh, SKOSH!

SKOSH, YORK

I booked Skosh at the end of July for a trip to York that I had planned for my boyfriend’s birthday. I felt like booking at Skosh was like trying to get concert tickets: they release the dates a month in advance and you’re like vultures trying to secure the time you want!

Skosh exceeded my expectations. With a robust wine list and a gorgeous selection of small plates in a cosy, small restaurant, this place was an absolute dream. I think the pictures speak for themselves.

lindisfarne oyster with nahm jim & iced cucumber
hen’s egg – summer field, mushroom & black vinegar
house sourdough – acorn dairy butter & gunpowder salt

Every plate was so full of flavour and I can’t even begin to describe what the hens egg was like. The top was like a soufflé and the soft egg centre with a base of mushroom/crunchy bits with a vinegary tang. I asked what it came like and the waitress said “I think you should let it be a surprise”. And it truly was! My favourite elements of these dishes were the iced cucumber with the oysters. WOW. The masala cod was an explosion of flavour. I also loved the hens egg as already mentioned.

’xianjing’ lamb & mushroom dumplings
crispy lobster roll, pickled ginger
crispy potato terrine, yuzu & brown butter hollandaise
masala spiced whitby cod with mussels, celeriac & cavolo nero
salt-aged beef sirloin, roasted red pepper & sichuan chimmichurri

100/10 for this meal! Waited almost three months and the staff all wished Tom happy birthday when we got there – it’s little things like this that make your experience all the better.

If you ever get the chance to visit this restaurant I really recommend it. The attention to detail on the menu and the way the wine list is segmented by flavour and type is so beautiful that that’s an experience in itself.

72% kayambe chocolate mousse with tamarind & sesame
latte and treats (these treats were free like the way a mint is with your bill)
plum pav’ with kalamansi, black olive & lemon basil
